Diane Jobe's Cosmic
Soul Revue 10-27-06
Diane Jobe's Cosmic Soul Revue performed at Knoxville
Museum of Art's "Alive After Five" on October 27. First of
all, just the size of the band was impressive, with eight musicians
and lead and backup vocalists on stage. The quality of musicianship
of these seasoned performers shown brightly as it was evident they were
having as much fun as the audience. Who doesn't love a
really tight horn section? And out front was Diane Jobe, who is a consummate
entertainer with her high energy dancing and singing and her ability
to connect with the audience. And backing her up on vocals was one of
Knoxville's finest singers, Tracey Ozier. The two together were a sensation!
The music was irresistible and had our dance floor space crowded early
into
the show, as the band played a wide variety of soul and rhythm &
blues classics by artists such as Wilson Pickett, Delbert McClinton,
Dusty Springfield (Son of a Preacher Man!), and many more.
I have had the pleasure of working with Diane and her husband, trumpeterBobby
Hancock, on several occasions, and I can vouch for their professionalism
both on and off the stage. I am already looking forward to working with
Diane for another special Alive After Five program in May next year.
